Dubai has been making strides in recent years to become a more bicycle-friendly city. In 2016, the city launched its first dedicated bike lane on Al Safa Street. And in 2017, it revealed an ambitious plan to develop 1,000km of cycling tracks by 2030. Freelance photographer Kavan Choksi explains that these developments are part of the capital's wider goal to encourage sustainable transportation, reducing its reliance on cars.

According to Kavan Choksi, the results have been encouraging so far. The number of cyclists on Dubai's streets has increased significantly since the introduction of dedicated bike lanes. And with more cycling infrastructure in the pipeline, it is only set to rise further. This is good news for both residents and visitors of the city. Cycling is a great way to get around town and healthy activity that people of all ages can enjoy. With its sunny weather and flat terrain, Dubai is ideal for cycling. And as the city continues to develop its infrastructure, it is quickly becoming one of the best places in the world to ride a bike.

Kavan Choksi notes that Dubai offers a unique cycling experience, having turned camel tracks into bike lanes. Cyclists can ride the distance by biking through the desert using the Al Qudra Cycle Track. Downhill enthusiasts are sure to love the mountain bike trail along Hatta. The scenic route spreads across 52km of Emirati terrain.

The city also has many cycling clubs, such as the Dubai Roadsters, which organize regular group rides. There are also several bike rental companies, making it easy to explore Dubai on a road, mountain, or city bike, shares Kavan Choksi.

With its growing network of dedicated cycling infrastructure, Dubai is fast becoming a paradise for cyclists. Whether an individual is a resident or a tourist, there are plenty of reasons to explore the city and its wonders on two wheels.
